Old Man And The Sea (Scribner Classics)

The Old Man and the Sea - Ernest Hemingway a lovely short story. I'm surprised it won a nobel prize as it is really quite a simple tale. but very eloquently written.

The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers and Preschoolers: Gentle Ways to Stop Bedtime Battles and Improve Your Child's Sleep

The No-Cry Sleep Solution for Toddlers and Preschoolers: Gentle Ways to Stop Bedtime Battles and Improve Your Child's Sleep - Elizabeth Pantley This book is a good fit with my personal parenting philosophy. And I think the tips will really help. Certainly gave me a lot of options to work on... which with my baby is good, cause she often rejects the one size fits all strategies. Stubborn little bugger that she is :)

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (Dover Thrift Editions)

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde - Robert Louis Stevenson Of course you know the story. Everyone knows the story. But the story that everyone knows doesn't take into account the psychological considerations. It is refreshing to read the real / whole story behind the simplified version that is so popular in cartoons and the like. And such a quick read too!

The Kite Runner

The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini I finally read this book after watching the movie and hearing all the hype from a few years back. Yes it's a great book. I can't help but think I would have enjoyed it more had my expectations not been set so high though.

Girl, Interrupted

Girl, Interrupted - Susanna Kaysen An insight into a young girls unusual world in a mental institution. Delightful read, a great break between heavier books.

Save Our Sleep: Helping Your Baby to Sleep Through the Night from Birth to Two Years

Save Our Sleep: Helping your baby to sleep through the night, from birth to two years - Tizzie HAll I've heard that this book has done wonders for others, but personally I hated it. It goes against my parenting philosophy to treat my baby with a one size fits all approach. And personally I don't distinguish a "protest cry" as being a cry that doesn't need cuddling. Also, I HATE the claims and assertions that are not scientifically founded (for eg, feeding very young babies to comfort them is a cause of adult obesity (!) and this is just one - there are many ridiculous assertions in this book). Save your money and get a book that is based on some kind of research, rather than just the rants of a childless nanny who is telling people what to do, rather than how or why. Unless it works for you, then go for it...
